World Series Final Game Captures 51 Million Viewers Across the US, Canada and Japan Markets.

The nail-biting extended matchup that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers overcome the Blue Jays 5-4 attracted a total over 50 million spectators across the United States, Canada, and Japanese territories. MLB announced this marks the highest-rated World Series finale since the 1991 edition showdown featuring the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Details

The Saturday epic contest secured 27.33M audience members on Fox Sports networks, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s streaming platforms. Per ratings data, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the week.

It also stands as the most-watched Fall Classic game since the 2017 edition Game 7 between the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew 29.07M. This represents a sixteen percent improvement over the previous finale featuring the Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19 million viewers.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 placed 4th, the fourth game was seventh, Game 5 came in eighth, and the third game finished in thirteenth place.

International Viewership Numbers

In the Canadian market, the game drew 11.6 million viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports. This made it the highest-rated English-language broadcast in Canada after the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final contest began at 9 p.m. local time, it drew 12 million viewers. This came after the previous Friday’s Game 6 – in which World Series MVP Yamamoto allowed one run in six innings – drew 13.1 million viewers, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic game on a single network in Japan.

Overall Totals and Patterns

The full seven-game series drew 15.71M viewers on the Fox network, a 2% increase from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This represents the first time since 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has recorded viewership growth for two consecutive years.

Counting the opening game telecast on the Univision network, the complete American viewership was over 16 million. The overall World Series average in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1M in Canada.

The complete playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 drew 8.09M watchers, an 8% rise compared to last year and the network’s strongest playoff ratings since the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball stated that the World Series was televised in 203 countries and territories by 44 broadcasting partners in sixteen different languages.
